Video Footage: Starting young horses under saddle

Ali Childs from Vidali Stud, Bellingen, has sent her 3yo Matisse/Carbine filly for Graham to start under saddle. We were really happy after just a few rides under saddle, and even more pleased with her progress a week later!

Check out this filly's progress on video, via our Chapplehurst YouTube channel...

Lessons with Graham Chapple are now available at his upcoming clinic on Saturday 25th March, at the beautiful Wakaya Park, Vacy NSW (25 kms north of Maitland).

Graham is a professional horse trainer and riding coach, with 100% focus on both learning and teaching the principles of Dressage. His vast experience has seen him ride and compete in Australia and for many years in Europe where he won numerous young horse classes with his stallion Matisse including Overall Champion at the prestigious Magnolia Mouldings Young Horse Championships in England.

Graham has trained riders up to Grand Prix level Dressage, and numerous others to Advanced/PSG. So whether you are a seasoned Grand Prix competitor, a rider aiming for your first Prep test, at any stage in between, or even an eventing or showjumping rider, you will benefit from Graham's vast knowledge and expertise in getting the best out of your horse.

If you haven't trained with Graham before, now is the time to begin! Book in for lessons with Graham Chapple at his clinics at Wakaya Park, by calling 0402 114 032 or email horses@chapplehurst.com.au

The clinic includes private lessons in our indoor arena and will be held regularly on a monthly basis. More frequent lessons will also be available for those who wish to progress their training faster.

A great start to 2017!

Chapplehurst horses are out and about, moving up the levels on the Australian dressage scene. Carla Cosgrove's gelding Chapplehurst Decamerant finished 2016 on a high, being chosen as a finalist for QLD Dressage 4yo Horse of the Year! 2017 has seen them getting some great scores and placings in the 5yo classes, including a very impressive 5th place at The Boneo Classic CDI after travelling close to 2000kms to get there!

Sidney Hoffman and her Chapplehurst-bred gelding Freedom C, continue to impress at Advanced level in Victoria, whilst a little closer to home in NSW, Melanie Hill and Chapplehurst Maybelline have made the step up to Medium level competition, exciting stuff!

Graham recently travelled up to the Coffs Coast to give a clinic, hosted by Susan Burke of Urunga. This was a great success - thank you to all the riders for a great weekend of training! We look forward to seeing you all again next month! Also coming up, another clinic in Victoria - more details here soon...

August 2016 update

Well we have been a little quiet lately on the social media front, but there's been lots of activity within the Chapplehurst Team of late. Graham has been busy trackriding at Newcastle Racecourse, and has been riding up to 20 horses there each morning. It is all clocking up the experience of riding a variety of young and inexperienced horses and confirming his current method of training for dressage is also equally beneficial to the horses training for racing.

At home we've had a number of client horses in for breaking and/or training, ranging from beautiful little Fjord ponies, up to 17+hh Warmbloods. Plus our own horses have been ticking along, progressing with training, and the broodmares have some very special babies cooking, that we just can't wait to meet!

Out on the competition scene, we were absolutely thrilled to hear that Chapplehurst Decamerant (Decamerone/Samarant) was the first round winner of the 4YO Young Horse class at Brisbane CDI with his owner/rider Carla Cosgrove. They scored 7.960, topping a field of very classy young horses.

Within NSW, we've had a number of our dedicated students out and about competing on Chapplehurst horses. Melanie Hill, who is based at Wakaya Park with us, has had lots of success riding the beautiful mare Chapplehurst Maybelline firstly at Novice level, and more recently progressing up to Elementary level. Susan Burke with Valentino C are impressing with wins and places at Advanced level, and Sonia George is clocking up the results on the eye-catching Marchello, also progressing with success up to Elementary level. Aziza Yusuf, a junior rider, is developing a super partnership with her mare Chapplehurst Matsara, out and about at Interschool competitions, Hack shows, ODEs and Showjumping with style, winning Junior EA classes and Champion C grade pony club!

There's lots more to come from all of these horses and riders and others who are working away in the background, so watch this space...

And finally, huge congratulations to Victoria on her purchase of Chapplehurst Furstenhall, and to Fiona on her purchase of Chapplehurst Flintoff. These are two superb young horses, that will certainly impress in the competion arena in the years to come. Welcome to the Chapplehurst Team!

Competition Debuts in 2016

A dressage debut for Graham’s young Chapplehurst geldings last Sunday at Singleton Dressage Club. Chapplehurst Furstenhall (Furst Romancier/Duntroon) and Chapplehurst Macaulay (Matisse/Samarant) both behaved impeccably and worked impressively at their first ever show.

Furstenhall came home with a 2nd and 4th placing, whilst Macaulay brought home a 3rd place and a 1st place win, scoring over 71%!! What a champ!

Students Sharnika Blacker with Makizmo (Matisse/Da Vinity) and Melanie Sunderland with Chapplehurst Maybelline (Matisse/Longchamp) also had a great day out for the first show of 2016. Exciting times ahead!!

Many thanks to the committee of Singleton Dressage Club for putting on another fantastic event!

We are also thrilled to hear of the recent 1st place debut for Chapplehurst Decamerant (4yo Decamerone/Samarant gelding) and his owner/rider Carla Cosgrove at Toowoomba Dressage in Queensland!

Creating new partnerships around Australia

Chapplehurst horses are being sought from around the country: Valentino C and Sue Burke from Urunga (northen NSW) are already having competition success; Chapplehurst San Brentano has been snapped up by Lisa and Brad in South Australia; Chapplehurst Decamerant has moved north to sunny Queensland; Chapplehurst Decamerisse is staying a little closer to home within the Hunter Valley NSW; Chapplehurst Eveready has commenced a jumping career with Penny Ledner in Sydney; and Chapplehurst Matsara is being ridden by young rider Aziza Childs in Bellingen, NSW.
Congratulations to each of the new owners, as these are super young horses with huge futures ahead of them. We look forward to seeing them out and about in the competition arena!

One full-livery agistment spot opening

A Stellar Start to 2014 for Chapplehurst Horses

Well 2014 is certainly flying by. It has been a busy summer for the Chapplehurst Team.

We are excited by this years foals, including an exquisite Charmeur/Matisse filly, a picture-perfect Matisse/Carbine filly, and two super moving Wynton foals .

A number of Chapplehurst horses that have been bred, started and sold by us, have had fantastic results in the competition arena in the last couple of months, which is very rewarding. As are the sensational results that keep coming in from Graham’s students. Make sure you check out our Facebook page for all the latest news and results.

In particular, we are pleased to report good competition success from young Chapplehurst bred horses.

  • Victorian rider Sidney Hoffman and Freedom C (BB Flemminghton / Matisse), placed 6th in the Elementary class at Boneo Park CDI
  • Also in Victoria, Ashley Gray made a return to competition, riding Miss Matisse (Matisse / Königsberg), scoring over 67 and 69%, collecting judges comments about ‘sensational’ and ‘exceptional’ movement.
  • Mia Iggulden (a regular attendee at Graham’s Coffs Harbour clinics) rode her 5yo gelding, Chapplehurst Maxwell (Matisse/Wunder), at Grafton to a win in the Novice with 66%!
  • Kathy Shelley, and her 5yo gelding, Matanno C (Matisse/Brentano II), had a massive win in Preliminary at the DNSW event in Clarendon, scoring 71.5%!

Graham’s clinics in Victoria and NSW have continued to be very popular. Thank you to Danielle Pooles, Sue Burke, Mia Iggulden and Kathy Shelley for all your work with organising and hosting the clinics throughout the year.

Congratulations!

to Victorian rider Steph van Kollenburg, on her purchase of the lovely mare, Chapplehurst Samara (Samarant/Duntroon). We wish them lots of success and enjoyment along their journey together.

Recent Success

Pictured here is the beautiful, rising 5 yo mare, Chapplehurst Maybelline (Matisse imp / Longchamp imp). Maybelline has just been out to her first competition, and came home with 1st and 2nd place ribbons at Preliminary level. She took the whole day in her usual easy-going manner, including her first float trip (had previously only been trucked), and a three hour drive to compete at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre! Maybelline has had a late start to her training, due to being put in foal first. She produced a gorgeous filly by Decamerone (imported frozen semen) and is now impressing us more every day in her training. Maybelline is going to be a sensational competition horse and is one of the sweetest natured horses around. See more details and photographs in our For Sale section.

Other recent successes, include a win at Medium level for the 6 yo black gelding Valentino C ridden by Graham Chapple, and a win also at Medium level for the 5 yo stallion Musketeer C (Matisse imp / Duntroon imp) purchased and exported by Mira Warganegara.

A New Name

EA registrations are no longer accepting names with acronyms (eg. CDH), so we have decided that going forward, all of our horse names will have the stud prefix Chapplehurst. Keep an eye out for Chapplehurst horses in future competition draws!

Young Matisse horses in the competition arena

Musketeer C, a 4yo Matisse (imp) / Duntroon (imp) stallion, bred here at Chapplehurst Dressage Horses, was bought as a yearling colt by Mira Warganegara. They have just been out to their first Elementary level dressage show and scored 63.78%.

Mira says: "He is very nice to ride and very good natured mind. Too many people adore him, I am glad I found him in your paddock"

It's exciting to hear of our young horses getting out into the competition scene! Matisse progeny really do stand out with their great looks, conformation, movement and temperament. Perfect package for professional or amateur riders!

Pictured left: CDH Marchello, a 4yo Matisse (imp) / Rotspon (ifs) gelding, and owner Sonia George.

Pictured right: Mia Iggulden happy at the end of a test, with CDH Maxwell, a 4yo Matisse (imp) / Wunder (imp) gelding.

Out and about with fantastic results

Pictured on the left here is Musketeer, a 4yo Matisse/Duntroon stallion, sold to and exported by Mira Warganegara and being competed by Erwin M Yoga. Representing Indonesia, "Musky" was the Zone 8 Champion in the Preliminary Senior level at the 2012 FEI World Dressage Challenge!

Our other four-year-old boys have all had their competition debut with their new owners; Matanno C (Matisse/Brentano II) and Kathy Shelley scored a solid 66% in their first test together, CDH Marchello (Matisse/Rotspon) and Sonia George had a win at their first outing, and CDH Maxwell (Matisse/Wunder) with Mia Iggulden on board was Reserve Prep Champion at the 2012 Coffs Coast Dressage Championships.

Congratulations everyone, we are proud of your efforts and look forward to seeing you all out again in 2013!

On-going success in 2013 for CDH bred horses!

We are thrilled to hear that Sidney Hoffman and Freedom C (BB Flemminghton/Matisse) have been included on the National Dressage Futures Squad for the second year running! Exciting competition performances and participation at a Talent Identification day under supervision by National Selectors, have shown that this combination have potential to represent Australia at an International level!

Congratulations!!

...to the proud new owners of Matanno C (Matisse/Brentano II), CDH Maxwell (Matisse/Wunder) and CDH Marchello (Matisse/Rotspon). Three flash young Matisse (imp) geldings who we look forward to seeing out and about in the dressage arenas in 2013. Their sister, CDH Maybelline (Matisse/Longchamp), has given us a beautiful filly foal and is now being prepared for sale - check out our Sales page for more information.

DJWS, March 2011

Congratulations to Sidney Hoffman and Freedom C (BB Flemminghton/Matisse), who placed in the Top 10 in the 4 yo class at Dressage and Jumping with the Stars!

Freedom C is the first foal of Matilda C (Matisse (imp) / Lander (imp)). Sidney purchased him from us in 2010, shortly after he was broken in. We are delighted to hear of their recent success and look forward to hearing more from this partnership in the future.
